Klahoose Songs

Klahoose has been hungry for culture and traditions. Though we have traditions within our community that have become so customary, we don’t always notice they are culture. A big void within our community has been a lack of Klahoose songs. Until now we have borrowed songs and have only one welcome song that was composed almost 10 years ago, during a language project.

Our Klahoose Culture nights for the past six months have revolved around song composing. Elders, children, and everyone in-between have helped finding the right language to create a Prayer song, a Welcome song, a Paddle song, and also some fun songs about squirrels and the importance of tea in our culture as a social tradition.

With the help from Drew Blaney adding his drum beat and musical talents we have five songs recorded to share with our Klahoose members.

These songs belong to Klahoose band members. You are encouraged to learn and sing these songs to help our culture grow.

A full hearted thank you to our Klahoose language speakers for your tireless efforts in translating our songs and finding the right words to get the message we wanted to share. The memories that where created during this time will last a lifetime.
