Emma Wright, Archives Manager, and Genevieve Weber, Archivist, will be speaking about Indigenous material held at the BC Archives. The Archives has a large collection of records that relate to Indigenous people, places, and history, as well as some material that was created by Indigenous people, including audio recordings of interviews, songs, and ceremonies. We will discuss how communities can access their material, give an overview of programs that we have for Indigenous researchers, and highlight some of the changes we have made in response to the TRC Calls to Action. However, what we most hope is that this will be a chance for us to hear your thoughts, ideas, and concerns about the collections: What are we doing well? What are we getting wrong? How can we serve you better? What cultural restrictions or traditional knowledge should we be incorporating into our catalogue to make the research experience more meaningful and respectful? We look forward to meeting everyone and having open conversations about how we can work together in the future!
